The Australian Academy of Hypnosis

The quiet part of your mind that listens during prayer — that's the part hypnotherapy works in.

Welcome. If you're reading this, you've probably been carrying something for a while. I'm Charles Lobo — a Christian, and a clinical hypnotherapist. In my practice, sessions begin with a deep conversation: what's happening for you, what might be underneath it, what God wants for you right now.

The hypnotherapy then follows — clinical work that reaches the part of your mind that runs your habits and reactions on its own, with the suggestions that enter that quieter state drawn from Scripture and shaped by what we just discussed.

Wherever you are in the world — Australia, the US, the UK, or anywhere else — we can do this work together.

Areas where this work has helped clients move forward:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Addictions — smoking, vaping, alcohol, pornography, and more
  • Weight management
  • Chronic pain
  • Relationships, anger, and personal development
  • Low self-esteem and lack of confidence
  • Sleep issues, stress, and insomnia

If you're ready to take the next step, the next step is a no-obligation 20-minute discovery call.

Is hypnotherapy a sin for a Christian?

A quiet room with an empty wooden armchair facing a tall window, sheer linen curtains catching warm afternoon light, and a side table holding a worn leather-bound book and a white teacup — the kind of place to sit with a hard question

It's the question most Christians who consider this work end up asking — and many ask it more than once. You read what one side says. Then the other. Maybe you pray about it. Maybe you ask someone you trust.

And here you are.

One side told you yes — that you'd be surrendering control of your mind, opening a door that shouldn't be opened, dabbling in something with mesmerism in its bones. The other side told you no — that the American Medical Association and the Catholic Church both approved it for medical use in the 1950s, that Focus on the Family endorses it under Christian supervision, that nothing in the Bible actually forbids it.

If you've made it this far, you already know what you're really asking. It isn't whether hypnotherapy is allowed. It's who you'd let do it. Whose voice you'd let speak into your mind in that quiet, focused state. Whose understanding of God you'd trust to filter the suggestions before they reach you.

That is the question.

In my practice, sessions begin with a real conversation — about what you're carrying, what might be underneath it, what God wants for you in this season of your life. That conversation shapes everything that follows. By the time we move into the hypnotherapy work itself, the words and images that go into the quieter state aren't generic — they're drawn from Scripture and from what we just talked through.

The faith I bring into the work is examined, biblical, and present from the first sentence. Not added on at the end. Not a Christian sticker on a secular practice.

You may have tried Christian counseling, or talk therapy. They help you understand what's wrong. But understanding doesn't always shift what's actually happening — the anxiety, the addiction, the weight, the trauma, the fear of the thoughts, the habit you cannot pray your way out of. That part lives one layer below the part of you that already knows what it should do.

That lower layer is where hypnotherapy works. And it's more comfortable and familiar to you than you might think — more on that just below.

How hypnotherapy works

A focused state your brain
and your faith already know.
A practitioner's consulting room: a linen sofa and a leather chair facing each other across a low wooden table with books and a candle

Hypnotherapy is one of the simpler things in the world. It is a structured way of doing something your brain already does on its own — slipping into a focused, relaxed state where it becomes more open to new ideas. You enter that state every time a good book absorbs you for an hour. Every time a film pulls you in and the room around you quiets down. Every time deep prayer or biblical meditation slows you to where the noise of the day stops competing for your attention.

Your brain calls that the alpha-theta range. Scripture calls it being still.

In a session, I guide you into that state, and then we get to work — gently introducing the suggestions and ideas you actually want to live by, in language and imagery that fits who you are. You stay fully aware the whole time. You can hear me. You can reject anything I say that doesn't sit right with you. There's no surrender of control here, because there is nothing to surrender to — I am not doing anything to you. I am helping you do something with yourself.

The suggestions I offer come from Scripture. After years of doing this work, I can tell you honestly: they land in a way generic affirmations don't. The imagery is shaped by the faith we share — drawn from passages you already know.

Most clients notice meaningful change after the first session. The total number depends on what you're working through — anxiety often resolves in three; deeper work like trauma or addiction usually takes more. We figure that out together on the discovery call.

Hypnosis Programs

Woman experiencing anxiety and stress, seeking relief through hypnotherapy

Anxiety
& Panic Attacks

The 3am awake mind. The chest that won't unclench at the school carpark. The prayer you've prayed twice and don't yet feel. Anxiety lives in a layer below the part of you that already knows what it should do. That layer is where hypnotherapy works.
Person overcoming addiction with the help of Christian hypnotherapy

Addictions
Smoking/Vaping/Alcohol

The habit you can't pray your way past. The thing you swore you wouldn't do again last Sunday and did again on Wednesday. Addictions live in the part of your mind that runs without asking permission. Willpower can fight that part; willpower cannot reach it. Hypnotherapy can.
Person finding relief from chronic pain through hypnotherapy

Pain
Management

Chronic pain that no painkiller fully reaches. Hypnotherapy works on the brain's pain-perception pathways — no drugs, no side effects. It can be used alongside any other treatment, for arthritis, accident recovery, fibromyalgia, post-chemotherapy aches, and the kinds of pain that no clinic seems to fix.
Family building stronger relationships through faith-based hypnotherapy

Relationships
&Self-Development

The marriage you love and can't seem to stop straining. The temper that breaks loose when you swore it wouldn't. The version of yourself you keep trying to be and failing to maintain. The work happens at the level of identity — your identity in Christ — not at the level of behaviour-management. The change is sturdier when it comes from there.

My Approach

What you can expect when working with me

Romans 12:2 calls it the renewing of the mind. The work of replacing patterns that don't serve you with the ones God intends for your life.

I believe everyone, as a creation of God, has the capacity to flourish. Sometimes that capacity is buried under habits, fears, or wounds that no amount of trying can shift. The work we do together is finding what's underneath — and bringing God's light to it.

The conversations we have are about what's been hard, what you've tried, what God might be working in you right now. Then I guide you into a focused, restful state — most clients describe it as deeply relaxing — where we use imagery and suggestions drawn from Scripture, anchored in the passages that already shape your week. For some people the change is fast. For others it takes a few sessions. Most leave each session feeling lighter.

You came here carrying something. The next step is to let it go — and that's why you're here.

I look forward to meeting you.

Talk therapy reaches the part of you that already knows what you "should" do. Hypnotherapy works one layer deeper, with the part of you that runs your habits, reactions, and beliefs without asking permission. That's where lasting change is built.
